How Hong Kong businesses can simplify payments with HSBC Payment Services Monthly Package

In today’s trade environment, Hong Kong businesses are dealing with more payment channels, more markets and more moving parts than ever before. Whether you’re paying local suppliers, settling invoices with partners in the Greater Bay Area or collecting from customers overseas, one theme has remained constant: payment costs and processes can be hard to predict and even harder to keep track of, and it’s easy to overpay without realising.

At the same time, finance and operations teams are under pressure to do more with less. They need to support growth, manage cash flow and keep an eye on risk – all while navigating a maze of fees, cut-off times and reconciliation tasks. Against this backdrop, many businesses are asking a simple question: is there a simpler way to manage payment charges and control costs, without having to pore over every line item on my financial statements?

Thanks to Hong Kong’s position as an international financial centre, companies here benefit from a sophisticated payments infrastructure. But that also means there’s a mix of payment types to understand and navigate.

Payments to local business partners:

  • Faster Payment System (FPS): FPS is an instant local domestic payment service available 24/7 for individuals and businesses to transact in HKD or RMB. Payments can be made using the payee’s mobile number, email address, FPS Identifier, or their bank account number.
  • autoPay-out: autoPay-out, which refers to batch payments via Automated Clearing House (ACH), is a cost-effective way to process large volumes of domestic payments at once, with a consolidated account debit function to facilitate reconciliation.
  • Real-time Interbank Domestic Payments / Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS): RTGS facilitates the local settlement of interbank fund transfers in HKD, USD, EUR and RMB on an individual and gross basis. It also enables real time delivery-versus-payment (DvP) and payment-versus-payment (PvP) through domestic and international linkages.

Payments to international partners:

  • Telegraphic transfer (TT): Also known as telex transfers, this electronic method of transferring funds is mainly used for overseas wire transactions. To use this service, you'll need the receiver's complete bank account information, including the SWIFT code.

This variety gives businesses flexibility, but it also creates complexity. Many firms operate across several systems and platforms at once – for example, using FPS and autoPay-out for local operations, RTGS for high-value payments, and TTs for overseas settlements. Each payment type can have different fees, and cross-border transactions may involve extra handling charges and foreign exchange spreads.

As transaction volumes grow over time, getting a clear view of your payment costs across multiple accounts could become increasingly difficult and time-consuming.

How a package‑based model can simplify business payments

Packaged pricing has become a familiar concept in many areas of business, from software and cloud services to logistics and digital tools. When applied to business payments, it follows a similar logic: instead of paying separate fees for individual transactions, you pay a fixed monthly fee for a defined quota of core payment transactions.

In practice, a package-based payment model brings together a set number of local and cross-border transactions under one monthly plan. Rather than setting a different budget for payments every month, businesses know in advance what they will pay for that quota of transactions.

HSBC Payment Services Monthly Package at a glance

HSBC Payment Services Monthly Package applies the fixed-fee concept to the payment needs of businesses in Hong Kong. Instead of paying separate fees each time they make an eligible local or cross-border transaction, customers pay one monthly fee for a set quota of key payment types.

Key features of our packages include:

  • Five tiers – Local, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Titanium
  • Covers both local and cross-border payments – including FPS-out, autoPay-out, RTGS and TT – under a single plan
  • Increasing quotas as customers move up tiers, with smart allocation to higher-cost transaction types to maximise value
  • A shared quota across all HSBC business accounts held by the customer, enhancing flexibility and practicality
  • Flexibility to switch or cancel plans anytime as business needs evolve1

How it works:

  • The package covers the basic transaction fees of eligible payments within the quota
  • Transactions exceeding the monthly quota are charged in accordance with HSBC’s standard Commercial Tariffs
  • A 90-day cooling-off period allows businesses to try the package and switch back to standard tariffs if needed. If the package fee exceeds what would have been paid under standard pricing, the difference will be refunded

Benefits of HSBC Payment Services Monthly Package

By bringing these payment types together under a single fixed monthly fee, HSBC Payment Services Monthly Package aims to ease several common pain points for Hong Kong businesses.

  1. Predictable costs
Our payment packages bring you convenience, predictable monthly costs and savings. With one fixed fee covering a set quota of payments, you can budget and manage your cash flow more easily and spend more time growing your business, not tracking fees.
  2. Savings that stack up
To give you the best value from your plan, our smart quota allocations automatically prioritise the more costly transaction types, not the ones that were made first. You could save up to 56% compared with standard Commercial Tariffs when you fully use your package1.
  3. Flexibility to scale up or down
From homegrown start-ups and steady business builders to high-volume global movers, there’s a plan to support every stage of growth. Choose from five packages, and switch anytime as your needs evolve2.

Businesses can apply for and manage each package digitally with minimal effort:
    • Silver is well suited to companies with some regular international transactions
    • Gold and Platinum typically offer the strongest value for customers with steadily rising domestic and cross-border transaction volumes
    • Titanium comes with a higher monthly fee, but delivers predictable cost control for high volume users
    • The Local plan focuses on simplicity and convenience for domestic payments, while still offering savings of around one third for customers with heavier FPS usage
  4. Special rewards
Customers may enjoy an extra 0.5% cash rebate (up to HKD800) or 0.5% RewardCash (up to $800 RewardCash) on eligible transactions made within the first 90 days of issuance of the new HSBC Business Debit Mastercard® or HSBC Business Mastercard respectively.3
  5. Built-in assurances for new joiners to our packages
Customers who apply for a new package can enjoy a 90-day cooling-off period, with the option to switch back to standard pricing if needed and receive a refund of any excess fees paid.
